Social network and cyberbullying

I’m going to write about social network. The advantages and disadvantages it has, different meanings of a friend, privacy, suggestions to improve the social sites…

From my point of view, the social network has changed our lives radically. We can know what’s happening in every moment in the world. Social sites give us the opportunity to connect to other people all over the world. Anybody can easily communicate without staying in front of another person. It is also fun and enjoyment because a lot of people upgrade videos, memes, pictures… It gives the opportunity to business owners and workers to share their services.

But social network also has negative aspects. For example, there is sometimes a lack of privacy because people who don’t know can see your social media. There are also hackers that do what they want with other people accounts. It can be a time waster activity if it isn’t used correctly. There are adverts that the majority of the people don’t like.

A traditional friend won’t be as good as an online friend nowadays and in the near future.

In my opinion, it is very important to guarantee our privacy in the social sites, and for it we don’t have to give personal information to people we don’t know.

I want to focus on cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.

Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

Kids who are being cyberbullied are often bullied in person as well. Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and reach a kid even when he or she is alone. Cyberbullying messages and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience. It can be difficult and sometimes impossible to trace the source. Deleting inappropriate or harassing messages, texts, and pictures is extremely difficult after they have been posted or sent.

Kids who are cyberbullied are more likely to:

• Use alcohol and drugs
• Skip school
• Experience in-person bullying
• Be unwilling to attend school
• Receive poor grades
• Have lower self-esteem
• Have more health problems

As a consequence of all the previous information, we can say that social network has changed our lives and it is very helpful for us. It has a lot of advantages if we use it appropriately, but it can be very risky for everybody but especially for children. It is important to look after the youngest kids because they aren’t able to protect themselves. I use frequently social sites and I don't have any problem, so in my fact it has been very helpful and entertaining.
