Liu Xiaobo was a Chinese literary critic, writer, poet, anti-communist, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who called for political reforms and was involved in campaigns to end Communist single-party rule. He was incarcerated as a political prisoner in Jinzhou, Liaoning. On 26 June 2017, he was granted medical parole after being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and he died in hospital on 13 July 2017 when he was 61.
During his fourth prison term, Liu was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize for "his long and non-violent fight for fundamental human rights in China". Liu was the first Chinese citizen to be awarded a Nobel Prize of any kind while residing in China. He was the third person to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while in prison or detention. Liu was one of the most important human right activist. He wanted to change
People all over the world blamed the Chinese communist regime for his death and said that "Liu Xiaobo had contributed to the fraternity of peoples through his non-violent resistance against the oppressive actions of the Communist regime in China.
Born in the northern province of Jilin in 1955, Liu was part of the first generation of Chinese students to go to university after the cultural revolution. When pro-democracy protests broke out in Beijing in the spring of 1989, Liu was lecturing in New York but decided to return despite having previously shown little interest in politics. “He thought: ‘This is where I should be and this is where I can make a contribution. So I am going there’,” He was jailed for almost two years for his leader role in what Beijing called “counter-revolutionary” riots. This gave him more reasons to fight for democracy and in 2008 it was jailed again. He had to be there until 2019, but he died with liver cancer.
I have chosen this person because of his pacific fight and his revolutionary ideas to achieve the equality and democratic communism in China. He was the leader of the resistance and inspired people all over the world. All the democratic governments supported him in his fight and he was an idol for Chinese citizens.
