European immigrant politics

Hi, I’m Jabi and I’m going to write about refugees and immigrants. I will give you information and then my personal opinion about it. This is my first post blog so sorry if there is any mistake.

First of all, it’s important to know what’s a refugee. It is a person who has been forced to leave a country in order to escape from war, persecution or natural disaster. I’m going to focus my attention in migrants that come to Europe for a better life. The conflict in Syria continues to be by far the biggest driver of migration. But the  violence in Afghanistan and Iraq, abuses in Eritrea, as well as poverty in Kosovo, are also leading people to look for new lives elsewhere. As BBC informs, 350,000 people emigrated from Syria to Europe. However, more than 1 million immigrants arrived in total in 2015.
As you can see in this graph, Germany received the highest number  of asylum claims in its territories. Hungary and Sweden are also requested by the refugees and the migrants. Spain has only received 10,000 asylum claims, and it hasn’t accepted all of them. Nearly all of them have arrived to Europe by sea in infrahuman conditions. They are blocked in the borders. Trying to reach land, 3300 innocent people died in 2015. The summer months are usually when most fatalities occur. But in 2015, the deadliest month for migrants was April, which saw a boat carrying about 800 people in the sea off Libya.

Chart showing approved asylum applications in 2015Tensions in the EU have been rising because of the disproportionate burden faced by some countries, particularly the countries where the majority of migrants have been arriving: Greece, Italy and Hungary.

I don’t like the politics of the European Union because it accepts only a third of the asylum claims. From my point of view, Europe can make an effort and let all of them entry in our territories. They are normal people that love their country and are obliged to go away from their houses. The wars and conflicts in Syria have destroyed all their country and they are in risk. It can happen to anyone, so we have to help them. Maybe in some years, we could have a war and that would destroy Europe.
